RECEPTIONIST
Houston Volunteer Lawyers (HVL) leverages the use of pro bono legal services to deliver client-centered free civil legal services to the greater Houston community. This includes record clearing, family law, estate planning, landlord/tenant disputes, probate, consumer issues, public benefits, ID restoration, and veteran-specific legal issues. HVL shares office space in downtown Houston with the Houston Bar Association (HBA) and Houston Lawyer Referral Service (HLRS). While each organization has its own office, they share common reception area, conferences rooms, and a breakroom.
HVL seeks a full-time, bilingual Receptionist to greet visitors, answer phones, check messages, assist with maintaining common areas utilized by all three organizations, and other administrative duties necessary to support the office. This position requires in-office presence from Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. The Receptionist will report to HVL’s Executive Director or their designee.
Primary Responsibilities
- Greet and welcome all visitors, notifying the correct person or organization of their arrival.
- Accept and distribute deliveries to all three organizations.
- Answer the phones, directing the caller to the appropriate office and staff member.
- Respond to HVL inquiry calls for services.
- Schedule and reserve the common areas including the Board Room, Conference Room, Huddle Room, and breakroom.
- Assist with maintaining common areas.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries made to info@hvlp.org.
- Manage inventory of HVL office supplies and place order when inventory is low.
- Manage office mail.
- Maintain timely documentation of all case-related calls and client inquiries, utilizing HVL’s case management system.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn how to use LegalServer, HVL’s case management system.
- Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Able to be in-office Monday through Thursday. Remote work is optional on Friday.
- Create a welcoming environment and provide visitors with information in a professional manner.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Multi-tasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

Annual Salary and Benefits
This position is a full-time position. Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $32,000. This position requires someone to be in the office Monday – Thursday.

Staff are eligible for 80 hour of PTO per year. After one year with HVL, staff will also receive additional vacation hours and are eligible for 6 weeks paid parental leave.
