Veterans Legal Initiative Internship

The Veterans Legal Initiative (“VLI”) seeks inspired individuals with an interest in serving the legal needs of low-income Veterans.

The VLI serves Veterans and their surviving spouses making up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and living in Harris and contiguous counties. As an intern in the VLI, you can expect to speak with clients and potential clients, draft documents, conduct research, and assist with legal clinics.

Our department receives a broad array of cases including all of the types of cases that HVL accepts (divorce, custody, support, will drafting, probate, tax, guardianship, expunction/nondisclosure, bankruptcy, SSDI, etc.), along with VA Benefits Appeals, VA Pension Appeals, and Military Service Discharge Upgrades. During your internship, you can expect to be given the opportunity to work on a variety of different types of cases.

VLI offers opportunities for individuals seeking an internship, externship, or Department of Defense (“DoD”) SkillBridge Program participation. Applications are accepted throughout the year. For more information on the VLI or to apply for an internship, please email your resume to Robert Morales at robert.morales@hvlp.org. Your email message should function as a cover letter. Please include Veteran’s Legal Initiative Internship in the subject line. Thank you for your interest.
