HOUSTON VOLUNTEER LAWYERS LEGAL CASE WORKER JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Houston Volunteer Lawyers, the non-profit legal aid arm of the Houston Bar Association, is seeking a full-time Legal Case Worker to assist in providing legal aid to low-income Houston area residents.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Opening and reviewing client files to evaluate clients’ income, assets, and expenses.
  • Conduct follow-up communications with clients & maintain client records.
  • Assist with receptionist phone duties and manage other legal administrative functions.
  • Staff legal advice clinics, including some Saturdays and some after hour events.
  • Work with Houston Volunteer Lawyers staff attorneys and volunteers as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Excellent computer and data entry skills
  • Strong verbal and written proficiency in Spanish & English
  • Reliable transportation
  • A desire to provide public service
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills

Preferred:

  • 4 Year bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate, or 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working with individuals facing barriers and hardships

Annual Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $30,000 – $37,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include employee and dependent health, vision, and dental insurance; a 401k defined contribution retirement plan with a 5% Employer match; flexible work schedules, professional development training, and growth opportunities.
