Veteran's Pro Bono Roundtable

Title of Project: Veteran's Pro Bono Roundtable

Purpose: Assess and analyze cases submitted by Veterans for pro bono representation.

Background: Over the last couple of months, HVL has seen an increase in the number of veterans who are seeking pro bono representation. Due to COVID-19, HVL is not able to host our normal weekly legal advice clinics for veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey VA hospital. HVL is piloting a pro bono round table project to take the place of the weekly VA clinics.

Project Details: On Thursday afternoons from 2 pm - 5 pm, volunteer attorneys will join a round table discussion with HVL's Supervising Attorney for the Veterans Legal Initiative, Randy Clark.  Randy will lead the roundtable discussion on six pro bono cases for Veterans who have applied for HVL services. Volunteers will be asked to help analyze the cases, triage the matters, and determine whether or not the specific cases need a pro bono attorney. It is our hope that after discussing the matters in detail, volunteers at the roundtable will feel comfortable handling these cases pro bono under the mentorship of Randy.

Location of Clinic: Virtual via Zoom. HVL will provide meeting details.

Number of Volunteers Needed: 6-7
